Jokester among them

Check out this recipe book from the women of  Second Reformed Church in 1968.  I love that it is put together in a three-ring binder with over 126 typewritten pages. My best guess, based on family history, is that this book came from Kalamazoo, Michigan. There are recipes with some ingredients I’m not sure you can still find in the stores and some interesting creations. Can you say Tuna Jello Salad??? I will explore this book more in another post. It is too fabulous a find to get all in one post. Let’s begin with the most unexpected recipe. It appears that Ms. Barbara Strand was the comedian of the group! Yuk, yuk, yuk!

About Comfort Cooking On Island Time

There are two things I can't resist; an old recipe handed down and passed around, and the beach. Growing up in the midwest I was introduced to true comfort food but always dreamed of a different landscape, and climate. Recently I acquired a 50 year old beach house. While stumbling after the great cooks of my past, I am focused on a future with cool waves and gently breezes......and watermelon rind pickles of course!

Oh, that Barbara! Wonder what she would say if asked: “What ever happened to the FIRST reformed church congregation?”
